The Barrel
User Experience & Branding
The Barrel is a user experience and conceptual branding project built entirely on Figma. The goal was to design a shopping experience from scratch, develop branding for an online store, establish a functional prototype, and learn the basic concepts of CSS and HTML.
Inspired by the aesthetics and coziness of small business stationary stores. I decided to develop a stationary and calligraphy store built on artisan-focused business and collaboration. I chose the name The Barrel based on the anatomy of a fountain pen.
The User Experience Process (Personas)
My first introduction to stationary stores was because of a client who showed me a very cozy stationer store local to my area. From there, I would constantly stop there for pen pals and holiday cards. For my personas, I referenced that same client along with classmates who I believe would appreciate a comfy stationary store to buy intentional supplies.

Design Process
After confirming the store type, I was very confident on the branding I wanted to produce. Minimalist, cozy, and modern. I wanted the shopping experience to be simple for all (tech savvy or not), and pleasing to the eye as the user purchases items to move from digital to analog processes.

Newsletter Concept
Aside from the website, I decided to design a short monthly newsletter that The Barrel would use for marketing outside of social media. I wish there was a local snail mail club or seasonal giveaways to sign up for!

Completed Website
The overall finished shopping experience goes beyond simply putting items into a bag. I decided to expand and provide an idea of a community-based business that is approachable for all users.
